SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR IABA MEMBER AT AMERICAN UNIVERSITY WASHINGTON COLLEGE OF LAW



The IABA is proud to announce the development of an ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM together with American University Washington College of Law (WCL).  The purpose of the program is to provide one IABA member with a full scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws in the prestigious International Legal Studies Program (ILSP) of the Washington College of Law.  The ILSP offers specializations in various disciplines, including International Business Law, Intellectual Property, International Commercial Arbitration, and Human Rights Law.

As a pre-requisite to the selection process, all candidates must FIRST apply for admission to the American University Washington College of Law and be admitted to the LL.M. in International Legal Studies Program (ILSP) pursuant to the accreditation requirements established by law schools within the United States. These requirements may be found at http://www.wcl.american.edu/ilsp/llmapplication.cfm.

In addition to the pre-requisite above, candidates must submit an application letter to the IABA explaining how this scholarship will contribute not only to their personal development, but also to the development of the IABA’s principles as established in Article I of the IABA statute (see www.iaba.org).

Specifically, the scholarship will be offered to the candidate who best meets the following requirements:

a)   Exhibits a strong academic record as a law student;

b)   Shows an outstanding commitment to promoting the Rule of Law in the American after completion of the LL.M;

c)    Demonstrates financial need; and

d)   Commits to becoming an active member of the IABA after the completion of the LL.M.

The scholarship awarded will cover all tuition costs, approximately amounting to US $44,000. Students will be responsible for costs associated with accommodation, textbooks and supplies, air travel and transportation, and any other personal expenses.  Once selected, the scholarship recipient must complete an externship at the IABA headquarters in Washington, DC, pursuant to his or her availability.
