Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to the IABA 58th Annual Conference on “The law as Instrument for Social Engineering and the Strengthening of the Rule of Law”, to be held from August 2nd to 5th, 2022.
The nations of our hemisphere and the entire world face unprecedented challenges, exacerbated by the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the other “virus” of corruption and non-compliance with norms at the international level, as well as and its impact on economic growth and sustainable development. This has weakened the foundations of democratic systems and the Rule of Law on which they are based. This weakness is reflected in the international order and makes it unstable, posing a serious risk to world peace as it manifests itself in today’s context.
The IABA’s mission to foster knowledge and understanding of the law, as well as to promote democracy and the Rule of Law, in these non-ordinary times, is as essential today as it was in its founding stage in 1940.
The IABA Conference offers an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the law as an instrument to create structures and processes aimed at building robust and fair societies, as well as strengthening the rule of law, which is key to sustainable development, a stable international order, and world peace.
The IABA 58th Annual Conference will offer quality academic programs by distinguished guest jurist and IABA members, as well as opportunities to develop professional relationships and friendships through networking events and social programs.
Though the Conference will be virtual, for those who would like to visit the DC area and meet and greet other attendees, we will offer the opportunity to attend it together with other fellow members and guest, in the offices of Cozen O’Connor, courtesy of the firm and their partner and IABA Treasurer, Mark Atwood.
To end the Conference on a high note, we cordially invite you to also register for the great in-person Gala that we are offering on Friday, August 5th at the renowned Cosmos Club of Washington, DC. This will provide an opportunity to celebrate in-person our 82nd Anniversary with a fine dinner, and to enjoy a keynote speech followed by a ceremony celebrating the democratic transfer of power within the IABA from President Judd L. Kessler to the incoming President Fernando Fragoso.
We look forward to your participation in both the Conference and Gala!
Judd Kessler Lourdes Escaffi Venes
President Secretary General
* In-person activities will observe proper COVID-19 protocols.
